The Air-Defence Unit, Hércules, belonging to the Spanish Army will be deploying in Salobreña between the 12th and 16th of this month.
Not just a dispaly, it is also part of a combined services manoeuvre (Eagle Eye) involving the Spanish Air Force with six Eurofighter (C16) jets belonging to the 14th Squadron based in Albacete on QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) duties. They are accompanied by 56 personnel (crews, technicians and support staff).
The whole thing will be coordinated from Madrid using its network of EVAs (Escuadrones de Vigilancia). Motril is the home of EVA 9 with its radar installations above the town (Conjuro). The old squadron HQ has closed down but the married quarters remain.
The A/D Unit will mount the display on the other side of the main road within the fairground area.
The A/D Units will also deploy in Motril and Torrenueva Costa to complete coastal coverage, consisting Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group I/74 (San Roque, Cádiz) and using HAWK, NASAMS, MISTRAL SAMs and 35/90 cannons.
There will also be a Spanish Navy participation with the frigate, F-100 Cristóbal Colón, operating in the Mar de Alborán waters using its AEGIS system.
