Compelling Truth out to make up for lost time at Dubbo meeting

After over a year off the scene, one of Australia’s best-bred country-based gallopers is set to return at Monday’s feature Dubbo meeting.

Compelling Truth, based in the Mack Griffith stable at Mudgee after being transferred from Annabel Neasham, hasn’t started since failing in Class 1 company at Tamworth in January, 2023.

That day, connections held their breath when the horse pulled up abruptly after the line, with apprentice rider Madeline Owen quickly dismounting and soon after reporting the gelding’s action had gone amiss.

Issued with a long-running non-race order after falling short of veterinary checks, Compelling Truth went into the paddock, and back to the drawing board.

But behind a slow and steady path, and a stack of patience, the four-year-old signalled his return with two solid open class trials across the past five weeks.

He resumes well in the early market for the feature second heat of the popular Summer Sprint Series at Dubbo over 1000m.

And if breeding has anything to do with it, fans of the sprinter won’t have to wait long.

Compelling Truth is by prolific record-breaking sire I Am Invincible, and out of the group 1-winning mare Speak Fondly who won four times from just 10 starts, including the Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in 2015, and three at group 2 level.
