It will be the first marriage for Haydon, the second for Albanese, who separated from first wife Carmel Tebbutt in 2019, the mother of his son Nathan, after 19 years of marriage.

The couple first met in March 2020 at a business dinner function in Melbourne.

Albanese asked the audience if there were any South Sydney Rabbitohs fans in the room and Haydon yelled out, “Up the Rabbitohs”.

The pair introduced themselves and after that, they met over beers at the Young Henry’s brewery in Sydney’s inner west.

“We had what I thought would just be a drink at Young Henry’s in Newtown, and we got on really well. That’s how it started,” Albanese told The Australian Women’s Weekly in 2022.

Haydon and Albanese kept a low profile at the beginning of the relationship, before being thrust into the spotlight when a photograph of them kissing was published in June 2020.

Haydon, 45, was born to school teacher parents in Bankstown, Sydney, but grew up on the Central Coast.

Her lengthy career in the superannuation industry has seen her live in Melbourne and Sydney.

Albanese is the third member of his cabinet to announce a wedding. Both Wong and Science Minister Ed Husic are getting married this year.

More to come.
