Two young men were arrested in Almuñécar over the theft of three, 1,000-litre water tanks from a farm within the municipality.

ALM 1,000 litre Water TankThese tanks are the ones that are made out of resistant plastic encased in a metal frame that you often see used for irrigation where there is no large, water-storage tank.

The farmer had reported the theft on the 22nd of last month. Fortunately, he had security cameras within his chirimoyo orchard in the Río Verde area of Almuñécar and footage of the alleged thieves, aged 18 and 28, at work.

The footage showed the two young men climbing over a low perimeter wall, and carrying away, one by one between them, each of the three tanks. Now, they must have been empty or the thieves had emptied them, as full, 1,000 litres weighs 1,000kg or one metric tonne, if you prefer, without taking into account the tank itself and metal frame work.

Officers from the Guardia Civil in Motril took on the investigation and inspected the farm and examined the security-camera footage. The officers immediately recognised one of them.

With the identity of one of the suspects establish, they soon worked out the identity of the other. Both men were brought in for questioning and then charged. The tanks were also located and returned to their rightful owner.
