Police are asking the public for any information on the whereabouts of a man who disappeared while on release from prison.

A court convicted Nasar Mohamed Hussein, 33, in June 2023 on charges of possessing an offensive weapon and assaulting an emergency worker.

Earlier this year, Hussein was released from prison on licence.

However, on Thursday he is said to have removed his electronic ankle tag and left the address where he was staying in Camberwell, South East London

The suspect is said to also have links to the Houselow, Clapham and Finsbury Park areas.

Officers have said anyone who has seen Hussein or who may otherwise have information pertaining to his movements and whereabouts should call 101, quoting reference number 4758/24FEB24.

However, if anyone happens to see him in person, they are advised not to make any sort of approach but to immediately call emergency services at 999.

While not the only story of a convict fleeing the UK justice system in recent months, Hussein’s disappearance pales by comparison to the dramatic break-out of terror suspect Daniel Khalife last September.

A former British Army soldier, Khalife escaped through the front gates of HMP Wandsworth on September 6 by strapping himself to the underside of a food delivery truck.

Ian Acheson, a former head of security at the prison, said at the time it was ‘incredibly embarrassing for the prison service but not entirely surprising.’

Experts had said that the inmate ought to have been held at the higher-security HMP Belmarsh in South East London.

Khalife was awaiting trial after allegedly planting a fake bomb at an RAF base and gathering information that might be useful to terrorists or other enemies of the UK.

After three days on the run he was captured by Metropolitan Police in Northolt.
