Weather maps have revealed the exact date snow is expected to fall across a swathe of Britain, stretching from Scotland to the coast of Dorset.

The maps show snow depths up to 3cm in western Scotland, with much of England and Wales seeing 1cm of snow falling at midday on Thursday, April 4.

Scotland looks set to see greater snow depths than the rest of the UK, but WX Charts’ maps suggest Brits in the north of England, Midlands, north Wales, mid-Wales and south of England will see a dusting.

Other models show the risk of snow confined to northern Britain, with Netweather’s snow risk map for April 4 showing a 30 percent to 80 percent risk in eastern Scotland, Northumberland and County Durham.

The Met Office‘s long range weather forecast (March 31 – April 9) says low pressure will push in from the south next week, with “unsettled, changeable” weather dominating.

It adds: “All areas are likely to see further rain or showers at times, with some drier spells in between. The wettest weather will tend to favour the south whilst northern parts remain a bit drier on average. In general temperatures around average, occasionally cooler in the north, and milder in south.”

Meanwhile, low pressure will bring bands of heavy rain, blustery winds, brief spells of brightness then hefty showers this week, according to Netweather.

Senior forecaster Jo Farrow said Easter Sunday will be milder compared to preceding days, but “nothing to get too excited about”.

Wednesday (March 27) will see a lively start, with a band of heavy rain and squally winds followed by sharp showers and sunny spells, according to Ms Farrow.

She added: “The lively band will move across the West Country and Wales, heading northeastwards through the morning with tricky driving conditions. It also looks wet for County Antrim and Down. Ahead of this, it will be bright even sunny.

“Scotland keeps the east/northeasterly flow with the frontal rain from Tuesday. Over the hills and mountains, there will be snow on a cold feeling day here.”

Today: Rain, with hill snow, will move north across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with brighter spells and showers following. Meanwhile, a band of showery rain will move east across England and Wales. Sunshine ahead, and heavy showers following. Generally rather windy.

Tonight: Clear spells and scattered locally heavy showers at first. Much of Scotland becoming dry overnight. However, showers continuing across Northern Ireland, and outbreaks of rain developing across England and Wales.

Thursday: Some bright spells, especially across Scotland at first. However, showery rain moving north across most areas during the day. Some hail and thunder in the south, where also very windy.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Bright spells, but breezy with plenty of showers on Good Friday. Showers more scattered on Saturday and Easter Sunday, and feeling warmer in the sunny spells and given lighter winds.
