The Town Hall brought a case before the Motril law courts, claiming that the strike committee had not followed the correct procedure in order to convoke a strike.
The result is that the judge has put a freeze on the strike whilst they deliberate whether the Town Hall has a case or not.
The indefinite strike was set to go ahead on Monday night but that won’t be happening, then.
Councillor Juan Fernando Hernández explained that following the court decision, the judge has ordered both parties to appear before him/her on Monday at 11.00h.
Behind all this is the Town Hall’s push to privatise the municipal cleaning service, which is strongly rejected by the public, municipal cleaning workers.
As for what the Town Hall alleged before the judge, they say that according to the Real Decreto-ley 17/1977, if a strike will affect any public service, then ten days notice must be given so that users of the said service have time to be aware of the strikers’ intentions. The Town Hall claims that this was not the case whilst the strike committee says that they did give sufficient notice.
