It’s probably a wise choice to leave all forms of identification, including your mobile phone, behind when you intend to carry out a burglary. Some crooks seemingly disagree.

GRA Phone on the FloorA 57-year-old burglar dropped his phone in one of the cortijos that he burgled in December within the area of the municipality of Churriana de la Vega, which led to his arrest.

His first target had been a cortijo where he used a stone to smash a security camera that was fitted above the front door, Consequently, the police were only able to see images of the burglar, wearing a hood and mask, before recordings went blank.

Inside he did the same to another security camera and stole a laptop computer, a backpack, a watch and swimming-pool equipment.

Minutes later he entered a second cortijo and stole two bicycles and it was at this second burglary that he dropped his phone.

It was during an inspection of the scene of the crime that an officer spotted a phone on the floor, which the owner of the dwelling said was not his and that he had never seen it before; i.e., it didn’t belong to one of his family or friends who occasionally visited the cortijo with him.

Well, it didn’t take long for the Guardia Civil to find out from the telephone company who the phoned belonged to and carry out the arrest of the suspect.
