Korra Obidi let the public in on a startling attack she experienced in London this week.
The former So You Think You Can Dance contestant, who appeared on the show’s live auditions in 2019, took to Instagram to share the traumatic experience she said she endured on Thursday (April 11). In her caption, she wrote that she was “currently in an ambulance to the hospital,” and that “there was a knife, acid attack on [her] in the UK in the middle of a live stream,” per Entertainment Weekly.
“There’s been a lot of hate in the past but this physical assault is a wake up call,” she added.
She urged those with “any information on the attacker,” whom she described as a “Black female, 5 foot,” to email her at Korramanagement@gmail.com.
In the video captured following the encounter, Obidi says that her “face is burning,” and asks someone not visible for “some Coke to wash it.”
After someone off-screen notes that “the knife is still here,” a yellow knife with some blood on it is shown on the ground. Viewers then see Obidi being cared for, as she has her eyes rinsed and her body sprayed. Obidi also posted to her Instagram story, per People.
About two hours after she posted the video, Obidi wrote the following in the comments section of her post: “Guys I’m in the hospital. Safety with travel is no longer a luxury but necessity. The acid was salicylic and I was lucky. Love you guys.”
The liquid thrown in her face was “confirmed to be a non-noxious cosmetic,” according to a statement from a Metropolitan Police spokesperson obtained by E! News. The statement also noted that “officers attended and found a woman in her 30s with a cut to her hand and reporting a liquid had been thrown at her face,” and that “she was taken to the hospital.”
“Another woman left the scene prior to police arrival,” the statement also read. “An investigation is underway.”
On Friday (April 12), Obidi followed up with another Instagram video update, noting in the caption that she is “hoping the investigations will yield some closure as to who the ring leader to all these attacks are.”
“Glad this was LIVE and there is ample evidence,” she added, in part.
In the video, she assured fans that she was not “clout chasing” — as she released her song “Outsider” on Friday — and highlighted that she “escaped with the best possible scenario.”
“I’m really frazzled. I’m still shocked, I’m still shaking. But that’s it, guys,” she says in the video. “This is the best possible scenario that could’ve happened from there. I’m grateful to God that it didn’t get worse than this.”
