The Turkish Air Force will be supplying a single-aircraft, aerobatic, demonstration team for the Motril Air Show in June.

MOT Solo Turk F16 Air ShowSolo Türk uses a specially-painted General Dynamics F-16C Block 40 aircraft which is combat ready. The team has a total of 13 personnel, including two pilots, and uses a CASA CN-235M-100 for transportation. Solo Türk has received multiple awards for its demonstration flights.

The air station where they were originally based since their inception in 2009 was Akıncı Air Base, but it was closed following the coup in 2016 as it was used as the command centre for the coup. Thankfully, none of the team were arrested as plotters, so they were moved to Konya Air Base in October 2016, where the aerobatic demonstration team, Turkish Stars, are also based.

A typical Solo Türk demonstration flight takes about 20 minutes, where the pilot makes 20 manoeuvers. After retracting the landing gear after takeoff, the aircraft starts flying upside down at an altitude of 10 metres (33 ft) and then climbs still in that position. In 2022, the cobra manoeuver was also added to the demonstration package of the team. As you can imagine, these aerobatic flights suck up a lot of aviation fuel, approximately three and a half metric tonnes of fuel.

Lastly, we shall keep you up to date on the Motril Air Show as June approaches, as it is scheduled for the 9th of that month.
