Officers belonging to the Servicio de Protección de la Naturaleza (SEPRONA) have investigated 46 people in the Province of Málaga as part of Operación Murus over illegal constructions.

AND Illegal Dwelling CortijoThe number of illegal constructions found during 2023 in the said province was 30, so in some of the cases more than one person was investigated; the home owner & the builder, for example.

The towns where these illegal constructions were found were: Ronda, Mijas, Ojén, Casares, Estepona, Manilva, Coín, Pizarra, Alhaurín el Grande, Alhaurín de la Torre, Álora, Alozaina, Canillas de Aceituno, Rincón de la Victoria, Tolox, Cómpeta and Torremolinos.

To net these 30 illegal constructions, they carried out 179 inspections, so in the majority of cases the properties inspected were found to be in order and legal.

In most cases these illegal constructions were buildings, although some were swimming pools that were officially registered as albercas (open water deposits). Some buildings were illegal because their use was as a dwellings instead of being an apero (store shed).

In some cases the buildings were in protected areas and in other cases the buildings were prefabricated, wooden constructions for residential use. They even found illegal, brick-built BBQs – yes, you apparently need building permission to build one.
