Castillo de Baños, which is within the municipality of Polopos, no longer has a beach, just a pile of large boulders.

Consequently, the Mayor, Matías Gonzalez, has put in a request to the Central Government via its provincial representative, for emergency work to be carried out to restore the missing sand in time for Semana Santa.

On Castillo de Baños beach there are two chiringuitos and a camping establishment, so beach tourism, the Mayor points out, is very important.

In the meantime the provincial representative for the Junta de Andalucía, Pedro Fernández, replied to the gathered press during his latest visit that the “studies and analysis will continue on protecting this area of the Costa Tropical so that the beaches have sufficient width.”

The Dirección General de Calidad y Evaluación Ambiental del Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico (how’s that for a title!) emitted a report in which it advised against creating beaches in the Castillo de Baños area using a groyne because of seabed flora (posidonia oceánica, also known as Neptune grass or Mediterranean tapeweed)
