A 21-year-old player from Kanata has been cleared to return to action by the Ontario Hockey League after serving what amounted to an eight-game suspension following an investigation into unspecified conduct.

Connor Lockhart, a forward, played for the Oshawa Generals in their road game against the Erie Otters on Saturday night.

An indefinite suspension by the Generals and the OHL was announced Feb. 7, with the league saying then it had been made aware of an investigation by the Durham Regional Police.

“The OHL understands that the Durham Regional Police Service has closed this matter,” an online news release said Saturday. “The league investigation revealed that Lockhart violated OHL rules and the league’s code of conduct. This is in addition to the findings of a previous Oshawa Generals team investigation that determined the player violated team rules.”

The eight-game suspension dated back to a regular-season game on Feb. 1.

The nature of the alleged code of conduct breach has not been disclosed.

Lockhart was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round of the 2021 National Hockey League draft, but he became a free agent in June after the Canucks declined to sign him to an entry-level contract.

He has also played in the OHL for the Otters and the Peterborough Petes.
