One of the Salobreña opposition parties is demanding that people who work on the beach should not have to pay Blue-Zone Parking there.
Más Costa Tropical Salobreña has put this forward as a motion to be included in the next Plenary Meeting of the Town Council.
According to their Spokesperson, Pedro Ruíz de la Rica (owner of Chiringuito Bahía) the majority of restaurant and shop workers, as well as those from other establishments who work on a daily basis on Salobreña beaches, “Need to go to work in their vehicles and find the Blue-Zone parking problem.”
This means that they have an extra daily running expense, he says, adding that many of them are earning minimum wages.
Because of this situation, Más Costa Tropical Salobreña will put forward the aforesaid motion, demanding that these workers be exempt from having to pay Blue-Zone-parking fees.
Editorial comment: two points come to mind; Councillor Ruiz owns Restaurante La Bahia in front of Chiringuito El Peñón and freely admits that restaurant workers are paid minimum salaries, so why not pay out of his pocket for their parking costs? Secondly, what about workers in the town centre who are also subjected to Blue-Zone charges… all year round and not just the high season?
