The Guardia Civil are searching for the ‘helmsman’ of a powerful narco-launch that ran aground on the Costa Tropical whilst being pursued by the Guardia Civil Maritime Service.
On board, the abandoned, 6-metre long RIB were 2,000 litres of diesel.
This chase occurred Wednesday afternoon after the Río Genil patrol vessel came across a suspicious craft. When they approached to get them to heave to, the RIB sped off along the coast in front of Almuñécar.
As a result, the RIB ended up on the rocks between Playa del Curumbico and Playa Cabria (where the cliff path is) and the skipper managed to get away on foot.
The officers boarded the abandoned craft and found 77 fuel containers with almost 2,000 litres of diesel between them.
The police consider that this craft was a ‘milk cow,’ in other words, a floating gasolinera for other RIBs operating between North Africa and the Andalusian coast
Not long ago, the Guardia Civil came across another beached RIB, but this time on Playa de Los Yesos which is a seaside dependency of Sorvilán. Again, the craft was full of diesel containers for refuelling other RIBs out at sea.
