This is the moment two people were thrown 50ft off a ride before they collided into a metal fence.

The accident happened on the Octopus ride, at the Sabah funfair in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, on Friday, after the carriage broke off and hurtled through the barriers.

The 10-second clip was filmed by an onlooker which shows the man and woman in the carriage which flies out.

They were taken to hospital for further medical care after receiving first aid at the scene.

The man was in a critical condition and was admitted to the intensive care unit while the woman, unnamed but aged 29, sustained injuries to her head.

Fire department spokesperson Ordine Gilu said a team was sent to the scene after receiving a distress call at 8.58 pm.

A police spokesperson said: ‘According to preliminary investigations, the victims were flung 15 metres away from the ride, resulting in injuries to their eyes, head, and legs.’

The police said management of the fairground had filed no reports but that police were investigating the incident.
