Japan Weekend Returns To Madrid ⋆ Madrid Metropolitan

Today sees the return of Japan Weekend at the IFEMA exhibition complex in Madrid and a weekend immersion in all things Japanese.

Manga, anime, video games and everything Japanesy will again fill IFEMA Madrid on 17 and 18 February for the 2024  Japan Weekend Madrid.

The cultural showcase event is the perfect meeting point to understand the Japanese culture through this fair in which a wide range of activities related to the country of the rising sun can be enjoyed.

Japan Weekend Madrid will bring together a host of family friendly activities, such as cosplay competitions, concerts, workshops, stands with hand-made products, merchandising, board games, video games, or the Pokemon Zone, a specific space for Pokemon trainers to enjoy a range of official competitions.

As part of the fair’s programme, well known illustrators, professional cosplayers and youtubers will be present.  There will also be a space for music with performances related to the world of mangain Japanese Japanese culture.

The competitions that can be highlighted in the programme are Japan Weekend Cosplay Show (JWCS), a cosplay competition with performances that seek the best possible show; the Cosplay Fashion Show; the International Cosplay League; the Children’s Cosplay competition; the Japan Weekend Idol Festival, the cosplayers dance and performance competition from series and video games with an idol theme; Asian Cover Dance, a talent show to find the best national performance and imitation of a KPOP, JPOP or MPOP group; and Karaoke.

The 2024 edition has already confirmed the participation of Gyung Studio, pseudonym of the South Korean illustrator Lee Kyu Young, whose art portrays the love story between two young people in their daily lives; the Japanese singer Kiki Vivi Lily; and the illustrator Refrainbow from Yakarta, author of the successful Webtoon series, Boyfriends, known for using a bright pastel colour scheme to portray its characters.
