GRA C&M Driver Drowns in FountainThe accident took place just before 04.40h on Saturday morning, which was the time that the emergency call centre, 112, received the first alert from witnesses.

The caller explained that the car had hit the roundabout and ended up on its roof within the basin of the wide fountain in the centre of the junction.

This occurred on the Avenida Juan Pablo II and assistance was immediately despatched, including paramedics and fire personnel. By the time that the fire service got there bystanders had already managed to get the car back onto its wheels.

A fire-service Spokesperson explained, “At first it seems that the car had been on its roof in the fountain and locals tried to help the 28-year-old man inside,” adding, “when we arrived the vehicle was already the right way up instead of upside down, which [being originally on its roof] may have caused the victim to drown.”
