On 22 March, four gunmen stormed the Crocus City Hall concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow. Provisional reports suggest at least 144 dead and 182 injured. It is the deadliest atrocity in Russia in twenty years.

The attack, which has since been claimed by the Islamic State in Khorasan, based in Afghanistan, has deeply shocked the population. While some accuse Ukraine, the United States or even the Russian government of having orchestrated the attack, others are already pointing the finger at the failure of Russian security policy, the intelligence service’s lack of vision, and corruption within the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
