When MAFS Australia contestant Jack revealed a kink on the show recently, it was deemed so shocking, Channel 4 censored it out.
During an exercise on the show’s ‘intimacy week’, Jack and new wife Tori were asked to list their sexual preferences.
But when Jack revealed this particular kink, the words were bleeped out, and the scene which saw it written down – which had been shown on Aussie TV – was cut out.
So what was this apparently taboo kink? It seems Jack is a fan of Golden showers.
For those not in the know, a golden shower is the desire to pee on someone, or be peed on, for sexual gratification.
While Tori on MAFS felt it was ‘unnecessary’ and had no desire to partake in a golden shower, there’s no need to feel ashamed if that’s what gets you going.
Before you flush this kink down the drain, sexologist for SexToys, Gigi Engle, shares the reasons someone may get sexual gratification from a golden shower.
‘A lot of stuff goes into this kink,’ Gigi tells Metro.co.uk. ‘There’s an element of sensory play that goes into it, like the smell of urine and the warmness of it.
‘It’s also linked to humiliation fetishes. Being peed on is degrading, it’s one of the most degrading things you can do to someone – worse than getting spat on – so that’s part of the sexual appeal.’
But a golden shower isn’t just for someone with a degradation kink. Gigi says it can also be practised when exploring power dynamics within a relationship.
‘It can also be a power exchange between a dom and sub, in the sense of a dominant marking the sub,’ Gigi explains.
‘A golden shower can be a possession thing, but obviously everyone involved needs to be an enthusiastically consenting adult.’
You can pee directly on someone, or you can pee in a cup first and then pour it on them, if that’s what you feel more comfortable with.
Professional dominatrix Margaret Corvid also suggests that golden showers can be combined with pee drinking. This, of course, reduces the amount of mess, but you’ll need a strong stomach.
Of course, any form of pee play should be avoided if you have, for example, a urinary tract infection, a bladder infection, a yeast infection or HPV.
Margaret adds: ‘Some people will combine peeing with oral worship or play (administering oral sex at the same time).’
If you’d like to try pee play, but you’re not sure how to broach it with you partner, Gigi has some advice: ‘It’s about being open and honest with your partner about why you want to do it, and why it turns you on.
‘Ask for empathy and invite your partner into the conversation. Then ask them what turns them on and what they want to try too, so it’s a two way street and everyone gets to have a say in the conversation.
‘With all kinks and fetishes you have to be prepared to get a no from your partner, and if you get a no from your partner, be gracious about it.
‘As long as they aren’t shaming you about it that’s totally fine and it may not be their thing – they have a right to not be into it.’
‘If it is a no, ask yourself if it’s a kink you really can’t live without’, Gigi adds.
People explain why they’re into golden showers:
J, London: ‘Halfway through shagging my girlfriend while we were both drunk, she suddenly just started weeing herself and I could feel the warm water on my penis.
‘I got instantly hard again and have just loved it ever since. I love women peeing on me, but I also enjoy just lying back and weeing all over myself.’
Kenny, Ohio, US: ‘I like to be dominated, and told to drink excessive amounts of water. My Mistress will then play with me, and throughout our sessions I have to hold it in and not be allowed to go to the toilet.
‘The best feeling is when I just cannot wait and have to wet myself, and clean it up afterwards.’
Scott, US: ‘I love it when my girl pees into my mouth when I’m giving her oral.
‘It’s like my tongue is working her up so much, she just loses control and can’t bear to stop. Plus, the warm water gives a bit of extra lubrication.’
Faye, Brighton: ‘I like the feeling of being humiliated and used by my Master. It’s also warm, and I love that it has come from him.’
If your partner is up for a golden shower, then there are a couple of tips to make getting started easier.
Gigi recommends: ‘If you’re interested in this with a partner, the best place to be doing a golden shower is in the bathroom or shower. It will be inevitably easier to clean up.’
You can also take things slow. ‘You don’t have to start off with pee, you can start off with warm water or tea and play around with that,’ Gigi explains.
