Almuñécar Town Hall has decided to clear its shores of unregistered small boats that have been left beached there.

They informed their owners that they had 15 days to legalise them or remove them from the beaches. These boats have either been left on areas of the beaches that have not been designated for this use or they are in the right place but have no registration number; i.e., lacking obligatory documents.

Each one of the offending craft has received notification in the form of an official sticker. Anybody who does not move them, will have them confiscated and removed to the municipal compound.

The Town Hall claims that the objective of this move is to keep beaches “unobstructed and clean,” for when Semana Santa arrives at the end of this month, explained Councillor González.

The said Councillor for the Environment pointed out that even if boats are properly documented, having a registration number obtained through the Capitanía Marítima, they will be removed if they have the appearance of having been abandoned or present a public health hazard.

Editorial comment: people from the city of Granada or further inland leave their small recreational craft on the beaches because being flat owners they have nowhere else to leave them — bringing them with them each time they spend their holidays here is too much of a bind. Some of them will probably not have realised what is going to happen to their property as they don’t live here.
