We pray for rain but are we, or better said, municipal and higher administrations, ever prepared for its arrival?

MOT Rambla de Las BrujasTake the Rambla de Las Brujas where it runs alongside the road up to the hospital from Alcampo roundabout. There is a stretch of this storm gulley that is chock-a-block with vegetation, mostly bamboo. The day that there is a concentrated downpour all that is going to get washed down its course.

Whose job is it to make sure that these water courses (rivers and ramblas) are kept clear? Well, it falls to the Junta and/or Town Halls, mostly the former.

The PSOE opposition party in Motril wants the Mayor, Luisa García Chamorro (PP),to get this storm channel cleared out where it flows through Barrio de las Angustias, because they have received numerous complaints from residents in that area, who also complain of rats and cockroaches there.

PSOE Councillor, Marifeli Arquero, says, “The Town Hall and Mayor is aware of the problem but to date has done nothing.” She went on to point out that residents on Calle San Pablo, Calle Mariana Pineda and Calle Pablo Coronado are expressing their concern on social media; hence the Town Hall must know about it.

Furthermore Councillor Arquero urges the Mayor to get onto her colleagues at the Junta de Andalucia (which is governed by the same party as the Mayor’s) to act urgently.
