Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday’s (February 14) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on Thursday February 15 at 7pm.
Joel Dexter’s (Rory Douglas-Speed) entire world was turned upside down courtesy of Abe Fielding (Tyler Conti), who dropped a whopping big bombshell on the former vicar.
He’s his brother!
Abe, who is a bit of a control freak, has exhibited red flags aplenty since rocking up in the eponymous village, determined to get a date with Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin), who he dated previously off-screen.
Cleo, who staged quite a comeback last month, has made it quite clear that she’s not interested in Abe, unnerved by some of his odd behaviours, and what’s more she’s also struggled to fight her feelings for Joel.
Joel, meanwhile, has found himself conflicted. The former priest is in a relationship with Leela Lomax (Kirsty Leigh Porter), who is pregnant with his child, but the return of Cleo has knocked him for six.
The former flames shared an intense moment on the bench on the bridge, falling asleep in one another’s arms shortly after they reminisced on their history together, with Cleo branding him her ‘soulmate’.
Joel was at a loss for what to do, telling Cleo that he needed the whole day to decide who it is that he wants to be with.
After a chat with Norma Crow (Glynis Barber), it looked like he was going to choose Cleo but, following a trip to the hospital for Leela’s baby scan – where he saw his child for the first time – he popped the question to Leela, making his choice.
Cleo, however, witnessed the proposal.
Abe, who was by her side, took great pleasure in causing chaos as he revealed that he’d overheard the conversation between Cleo and Joel on the bridge, filling Leela in, with the firefighter left horrified to find out that her new fiancé was conflicted over the two women in his life.
Before anyone had the chance to process what was happening, Abe dropped another bombshell, telling Joel that he’s his brother! They really do like to keep it in the family in Hollyoaks, don’t they?
This revelation seemingly confirms that new character Marie Fielding, who will be played by EastEnders legend Rita Simons, is mum to both Abe and Joel.
Marie will arrive in the coming months, with actress Rita having already started filming.
