A student from India is dead following a shooting in south Vancouver late Friday night.
Vancouver police spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin said officers were called to East 55th Avenue and Main Street at about 11 p.m. after residents heard the sound of gunshots.

Chirag Antil, 24, was found dead inside a vehicle in the area.
Visintin did not say whether the homicide is believed to be gang-related. No arrests have been made.

Visintin said she did not have any information about Antil. However, social media posts from friends and family identified him as a student visiting from India.
A GoFundMe has been started by Anurag Dahiya, who says he’s seeking donations to help bring his younger brother’s body back to India.
According to the fundraising post, Antil arrived in Vancouver in 2022 to study.
“We urgently need assistance to raise funds for sending his body back to India. If you are in Vancouver and able to offer any support or help, please reach out to us,” the GoFundMe post states.
“Your help in this matter would be deeply appreciated by Chirag’s family and friends, as we work towards bringing closure and peace during this heartbreaking time.”
