A Baldur’s Gate 3 fan has lost their save after days of playing, because they they got inadvertently involved in a sex scene.
Larian Studios’ award-winning role-player Baldur’s Gate 3 is filled with unique characters, quests, and storylines, and was crowned best game of 2023 at The Game Awards.
Although the developer has recently quashed fans’ hope of making new DLC or a sequel, Baldur’s Gate 3’s in-depth gameplay is still generating new predicaments for players, eight months after its original release.
In one memorable example, a player lost their playthrough of 90 hours because they wanted to see a sexually explicit scene with a succubus, and immediately regretted it.
The player was knee-deep in an honour mode run – a mode on the highest difficulty that permanently ends the game if your entire party dies – when they reached The House Of Hope for the first time.
In their Reddit post, titled, ‘Being horny, lost my honour run,’ they explained that they were sneaking around looking for a key, but they were caught and a dialogue scene started.
‘I’m thinking, well I have never seen this scene before so why not,’ the poster said, knowing it lead to a sex scene.
The dialogue gives you two choices: either fight the succubus Haarlep or sleep with them, by surrendering your body and soul, and dying as a result.
The poster decided on the latter, despite knowing they would die, as they believed others in their party could simply resurrect them with a revive scroll.
To their surprise, that wasn’t possible, and they lost their entire playthrough as a result.
‘So I lost my 90 hour honour run because I wanted to see the scene with the succubus. Was it worth? No,’ Burner666 said to summise their post.
Burner didn’t get the sympathy they might’ve hoped for from the commentors, with Sunny Hill finding it very funny, saying:
‘Haarlep is absolutely howling with laughter right now. Astarion is just facepalming somewhere.’
Burner should be acknowledged for their ambition at least, by attempting to go into The House Of Hope, which is one of the most challenging areas in Baldur’s Gate 3, and in honour mode no less.
